A 4-car set heads away from the camera north out of Newcastle in 1972. Three vehicle are of Class 108, the car second from front is a Class 101 TBS, indicated by its aluminium window frames and different roof vents. Up until the mid-1970s, South Gosforth (GF) depot, Newcastle had a sizable allocation of Class 108 DMUs among others, as well as the more ubiquitous Class 101s. The Class 108s were transferred away around the mid-1970s, replaced by Class 105s cascaded from the suburban services out of London King's Cross, once those routes had been electrified.
