Corby station on 13 April 1987, the day that services were restored after the original Corby station had closed in 1966. Single units 55004/55011 are awaiting a return to Kettering - the restored service comprised only a shuttle service to Kettering, with one or two trains each day being extended back to Bedford. The service was restored on an "experimental basis", but this experiment was deemed a failure, and Corby station closed again on 2 June 1990. It was to be nearly another 19 years before proposals to re-open Corby came to fruition, with East Midlands Trains introducing through trains to St Pancras on 23 February 2009. Lewis Bevan.

A 2-Car Class 108 DMU at the then recently reopened station at Corby with 2F53 the 10.56 service to Kettering. The reinstatment of a passenger service from the Midland Mainline at Kettering to Corby on what was then a busy freight line was carried out under the "Speller Act", a parliamentary act that allowed BR to introduce an experimental passenger service or reopen a station which if it later proved to be loss making or no longer viable could then be closed without issuing formal closure notice procedures. Corby was reopened on 13th April 1987 but then closed on 4th June 1990. Adrian Nicholls.

Here is one of workings on the last day, with class 108 DMU (51916+54194) at the little platform on the shuttle to Kettering. A third station opened on 23 February 2009 and it now sees an hourly service to London. Note the small RIP board attached to the left hand lamp iron. Kevin Lane.
