Vehicle: 51332   Set: L400

On a hot and hazy late Summer afternoon, a three-car Pressed Steel Class 117 Suburban DMU, with Driving Motor Brake Second (DMBS) W51332 leading, was toiling up the 1 in 37 gradient of the Lickey Incline at Vigo, with a Birmingham bound service on September 5th 1981. The set was finished in the 'refurbished' white with blue stripe livery, and the other two vehicles are presumably 59484 + 51374. Martyn Hilbert.

Vehicle: 51099

A 3-car Gloucester Cross Country set with W51099 leading is assisted up the Lickey Incline hauled by 8400, the latter allocated to this task. The 119 continued unaided from Blackwell. Assistance up the incline was likely required owing to the tail load (visible at the rear) being carried, 5/10/63. Dave Hill.

Vehicle: 51588   Set: C558

A Swindon Class 120 three-car 'Cross-Country' DMU formed of cars W51588, W59588 & W51579 (558), was down to walking pace as it was climbing the Lickey Incline with a Worcester to Birmingham New Street service on September 5th 1981. At the time, the set was allocated to Cardiff Canton, but in the following year, 1982, the set was transferred to the North West operating from Newton Heath Depot. Martyn Hilbert.

 DMU

12th December 1981

Vehicle: 50335

Relief at Vigo, 12/12/1981. On a snowy December day the normal timetable had 'gone out of the window' so it was good to see a Metro-Cammell on a Worcester - Birmingham relief service. Vigo is situated about 2/3rds up the notorious Lickey incline and the DMU was down to walking pace at this point. The set was noted as containing 50319 so this DMCL could be 50335. Geoff Dowling.
