A Class 108 set formed of 53957 and 54236 are seen departing (12 minutes late) from Seaham on the 11:03 Middlesbrough - Hexham, 13/6/90. This was one of the majority of Kingmoor (Carlisle - KD) depot's units that were transferred to Heaton (Newcastle - HT) depot in May 1988 when KD closed (the remainder went to Chester - CH), but still intended for use in Cumbria. Thereafter, these power-trailer sets appeared on certain generously timed Newcastle-Carlisle services, presumably as a means of getting to / from their new depot. They also made occasional appearances on other north-east local services, but their inferior power:weight ratio meant they usually struggled to keep time on Pacer schedules, as was probably the case on the service illustrated. Class 101 DMU at Seaham, 03/02/1978. Seen calling with 1306 Newcastle-Middlesbrough, at 1340. Graeme Phillips Collection.
On the icy morning of 03/02/1978, a Class 101 departs from Seaham with the 0906 Newcastle-Middlesbrough. It appears the train had conveyed mail sacks, which are being handled onto the waiting mail van by three postal workers. Station posters are displayed on the signal box wall, which seems an odd place for the PayTrain guide (rather than the platforms). Graeme Phillips Collection.
A Met-Camm and Class 119 DMU passing a Class 31 in a freight. Taken somewhere in the North East (possibly in the Seaham area ?) in October 1987. Curly42.
