A Class 101 DMU calls at Walker Gate, North Tyneside, on 21/10/1976 with the 11:05 Newcastle - Newcastle circular service, running clockwise, now on its final leg back into Newcastle. Graeme Phillips Collection.
A five-car DMU formation is seen at Walker on the Riverside Branch in North Tyneside, awaiting departure with 1632 Walker-West Monkseaton on 09/09/1970. Four vehicles are Met-Camms, the third vehicle is a Class 108. The three-car set (closest) has two vans, a 101 TBS and a 108 DMBS. The Riverside Branch was in fact a loop off the southern section of the North Tyneside loop, between Manors and Percy Main, following the banks of the Tyne more closely. After nationalisation, there were only services at peak times, and passenger services ceased on 23/07/1973. The route remained open to freight, closing in sections, with the last section finally going in 1988. Graeme Phillips Collection.
