A Swindon 4-car DMU with Class 123 DMS 52100 trailing passing Ashburys for Piccadilly, 27-8-83/ On Tour With the Class 13 Army.
This is a seven-car DMU formation, made up of 2 x 2-car units (closest is thought to be a Chester set, the second has almost all roof vents removed) and 1 x 3 car unit (a 120/101/120 hybrid) arriving at Shrewsbury from the Wolverhampton line. This was possibly a Wolverhampton-Aberystwyth/Pwllheli working, and would spilt at Machynlleth or Dovey Junction. The steel coil wagon at the bottom of the photo was on the tail end of a northbound train headed by 47 290, and there is another Class 47 held at signals with a southbound freight, possibly another steel train. Stabled between duties, Class 115 Driving Motor Brake Second M51899 was the lead car of a four-car set at Aylesbury on January 8th 1984.
