A visit to Kennington, south of Oxford on a late afternoon in September 1981 found the sun on the wrong side for any decent photos. This is class 117 DMU L410 (W51387 + W59497 + W51345) on a Paddington to Oxford stopping service passing a former rail served factory which has long since been demolished and the inevitable forest of trees now encroach on the line from both sides. On a hot and hazy late Summer afternoon, a three-car Pressed Steel Class 117 Suburban DMU, with Driving Motor Brake Second (DMBS) W51332 leading, was toiling up the 1 in 37 gradient of the Lickey Incline at Vigo, with a Birmingham bound service on September 5th 1981. The set was finished in the 'refurbished' white with blue stripe livery, and the other two vehicles are presumably 59484 + 51374. Martyn Hilbert.
