While on holiday in South Devon in 1987 we noted this Class 118 DMU with set number P460 several times. Here it is departing Dawlish on 3 July 1987 working the 11.06 Paignton-Exeter St Davids. The unit was very distinctive in its yellow livery advertising British Telecom. The individual cars were 51317 / 59469 / 51302. Lewis Bevan.

On one of the surviving remnants of the former Southern Railway 'withered arm' in North Devon, the British Telecom yellow liveried Class 117 three-car DMU formed of cars 51302, 59469 & 51317 (P460), was approaching Umberleigh on a glorious Summer evening with 18.33 Barnstaple to Exeter St Davids service on July 25th 1987. Set L417 has one of Reading depot's spare vehicles, Class 118 W51319, in place of its regular DMS when seen at West Drayton on October 1, 1987. The two NSE vehicles are 59506 and 51354. Malcolm Clements.
A Class 118 DMU arrives at Cardiff Central (at 12:53) with a service form the Valleys on 11 October 1987. DMBS 51308 leads, the other two vehicles are presumably 59475 + 51323. They were allocated to Tyseley at the time as set T351, two weeks later they would be transferred to Heaton. Robert Thomas.
With the Class 150's being introduced into service, condemned class 116/7/8 DMU vehicles started to collect in the sidings inside the triangle of lines between Penarth East and North Junctions. 16th October 1987. Class 118 centre car 59474 is closest. Paul James.
A Dragon at Westbury. This BRCW class 118 DMU set had been a Devon / Cornwall unit from new, but was reallocated to Cardiff in 1986 where it gained the Red Dragon branding. It was moved to Bristol a month before this photo was taken, the set number changing to B480 when it was seen at Westbury on a Bristol to Weymouth service in November 1987. W51327 + W59470 + W51312.
