In its last few months of operation, a BRCW Class 118 Suburban three-car DMU formed of cars 51320, 59482 & 51305 (463) was stood at Starcross with a Paignton to Exeter St Davids service on June 2nd 1989. Based at Plymouth Laira Depot, the set was one of a variety of first generation DMU's that had an extended period of operation in the West Country due to the Class 142 'Skipper' fleet being transferred to the North. The first generation units lasted until sufficient Class 150/2 Sprinters became available. Martyn Hilbert.

Appleford Halt on 11 September 1971. Although the track has been relaid with concrete sleepers, the Halt itself still retains its GWR features - wooden platforms, the pagoda-shaped corrugated iron waiting shelters, and (off to the right) a brown and cream "APPLEFORD HALT" nameboard. BRC&W unit 470 (presumably 50305 + 59472 + 51320) is entering with the 17.20 Oxford to Paddington train. No doubt I'd visited Pendon, a modest walk across the meadows from here. Tom Burnham.
Two suburban sets arriving at Paddington. Closest is set 474, a BRC&W build, presumably 51316 + 59483 + 51331. The set number was created in April 1968 when the vehicles were transferred from Southall to Reading. The second set looks like the closest power car has a white roof dome, suggesting we are still in the late 1960s. Graham Clark.
On 1st January 1977 a dmu service from Looe arrives at Coombe Junction past the gated level crossing and GWR signal box. A few minutes later it had reversed in the platform and passed the same location again heading for Liskeard station high above on the Great Western Railway main line. Pete LG99.
