Didcot on the 19th of August 1976 with the Power Station overlooking everything. The slide mount gave Class 119 DMU set L586 as on the 2B40 service to Paddington, but given the tail lamp, headcode and track I think we can assume that was from Paddington. It was probably made up of 51077/59420/51105. In the yard we have 08835 and 47024. 08835 was a Reading loco as you would expect and 47024 spent 1976 flitting between Laira, Canton and Bath Road. Birmingham University, West Midlands, 13th November 1976. A new station was opened to serve the university & Queen Elizabeth Hospital after I had left but on one of my many visits I captured a Class 119 diesel multiple unit train heading south (probably to Redditch) through the partially built platforms. The Worcester & Birmingham canal on the right parallels the railway out to Kings Norton. In the distance is the Pritchatts Road overbridge from where the previous telephoto shot was taken 3 months earlier. Today the route is electrified as part of the Cross-City Line. Pete LG99.
