South Kirkby, taken in the long gone 'Pit Yard'. The power car is noted as 977124, so presumably working with 977126 (closest). The photographer was a 'Road learning Instructor' based at Leeds, and the unit was taken into the 'pit yards' so Knottingley men could have a refresh on the railway, because like miners they had done no work for over a year. One of the ER route learning Cravens sets (977125 + 977123) at Sheffield Midland in April 1983. It still has it's rubber pad between the cab window and the first "passenger" window, which was fitted to avoid tablets damaging the bodywork when exchanged on the move. Ian Francis.

Despite being renumbered many years previously, the cab of 977048 still showed signs of its previous identity. Taken at Great Rock Sidings, 13/10/90. Paul Moxon.
Taken at Great Rock sidings on 13/10/90. The middle saloon shows the stillage used to mix the Sandite, some empty sandite powder buckets, and to the right, the air tanks that were used as air reservoirs to deposit the liquid sandite onto the rail head. Paul Moxon.
