A comment added to the image on flickr by 'br2975' notes: "The DMU is taking the Radyr Jct to Radyr Quarry Jct line through the yard, then the former Penarth Harbour & Dock Railway route to Penarth Curve North Jct. This was normally freight only, except for diversions, and specials such as Mystery Trips from Rhondda (Treherbert), Cynon (Aberdare HL) and rarely, Taff (Merthyr) valleys. My notes suggest the DMU was a footex en-route to Ninian Park Halt in connection with Cardiff City v Carlisle Utd. (City won 3-1). Sometimes the ECS would run from Ninian Park and stable in Radyr Yard during the matches." The KDH Archive.
