An often used publicity image (from the Swindon Works Collection, negative 5CR109) showing the interior of a buffet from a Swindon 79xxx series Inter-City DMU. The July 1957 image was captioned "Diesel railcar - snacks with passengers" and the same passengers appeared in other Western Region publicity images and so were possibly BR office staff. The pelmets and serving hatch surround was white/pink stripes. The serving hatch arrangement is interesting as others of the small batch of eight vehicles had wooden roller shutters. On the 23rd September 1957 a 6-car Swindon Inter-City set is seen taking the north west curve at Honeybourne with the 12.25pm Birmingham Snow Hill - Cardiff General service, diverted via the MR route to Cheltenham. Michael Mensing.
