There were two types of Rolls Royce engine used in DMUs, both from their C range, the six-cylinder C6 (180hp) and the eight-cylinder C8 (238hp).
The image shows the C8 engine with a torque converter fitted to the left side.
These DMUs were fitted with the C8 engines:
The Cravens vehicles had one engine per power car, the others had two.
On Blue Pullman sets the current for lighting, air-conditioning, refrigeration, battery-charging and ancillary equipment was supplied by two underfloor mounted generating sets, each set comprising an 8-cylinder Rolls Royce C8N horizontal engine directly coupled to a Stones Tonum alternator.
