It will be noted that it is recommended that only two vehicles designed and manufactured by the Bristol Commerial Vehicle Ltd. are included in the allocation, the reason for this being the time that the firm anticipate is required for the development of a prototype.
The General Managers of the Regions concerned in the allocation of the vehicles have been consulted and are in agreement with the proposals both in regard the selection of contractors and the allocation of the numbers and types of vehicle to the respective Regions. The General Manager of the Eastern Region has made a specific request that the buses to be supplied by W.M.D. should be fitted with couplers to enable trailers to be operated should these be required. The Region has this matter under review and if necessary will make a further submission at a later date for such trailers as may be required.
It is therefore RECOMMENDED that approval be given to the proposed allocation of orders and that the authority for the expenditure of £240,000 given under B.T.C. Minute 9/474 should be increased to £249,380, the orders to be sponsored by North Eastern Region.
Detailed proposals in regard to the services on which the vehicles will operate will be made in due course by the General Managers concerned.
(Signed by the Chief Carriage & Wagon Engineering Officer, Chief Operating & Motive Power Officer, Chief Commercial Officer and Chief Financial Officer).
