The DMS was altered to give through access between the saloons reducing the seating to 91. This left the only 6-across seat as being the one against the rear of the vehicle.
There was no first class seating.
Why were the number series so unusually far apart for the two types of power cars? There had originally been an order for 70 63' 6" 2-car sets for the ER, lots 30366 (50938-51007) and 30367 (56221-290). These were cancelled on 2/5/57 leaving the number gaps, the DMSs helping to fill the former.
Worksplates were carried on the vehicle solebars to identify the builder and lot number. Many of the worksplate images on the website are from the collections of Simeon Gaskell, John Horne and Tony Spencer.
