The vehicles appeared in a number of trade adverts by companies that supplied parts for their construction.
The advert for the company Beckett Laycock & Watkinson Limited shows the items the company supplied under its Beclawat brand for the vehicles.
The company, better known by its initials B.U.T., was a joint Leyland / A.E.C. concern that supplied then engines and control equipment items.
The company supplied three components for each engine on the vehicles:
Note the advert describes the vehicles as "Suburban Type" rather than Inter-City.
In this distinctly Scottish focused advert the company notes it is the "correct lubrication for the engines of this new fleet."
I wonder if the Western Region was using different oils?
The company supplied the steel seat frames for the units, used for the "comfortable and attractive" seating.
The company supplied many rubber-based parts, many of which are illustrated.
The company supplied the roller bearing axleboxes for most DMUs.
They had a series of adverts using paintings by the artist Leslie Carr, many being placed on the front page of "The Locomotive Railway Carriage & Wagon Review" monthly magazine from which this was taken (February 1958 edition).
Being on the cover mean that this advert was not as tall to allow for the magazine title and details at the top of the page.
This second version was to fit a full page.
More of Leslie's artwork can be found on Mike Ashworth's flickr site.
