Class 126 DMU at Ayr

1981

126 413 led by 126 414 leave Ayr for Maybole and Girvan, 1981. The use of oil lamp was necessary on the Class 126 units as the class did not have electric tail lamps. The rear car (Sc51043) is part of the preserved set owned by the SRPS at Bo'ness. www.class126.co.uk Andrew McConnell.

End of Days. Platform 13 and a six car Swindon Inter-City awaits departure from Glasgow Central. If the station clock is correct, this could be a late running 13:35 hrs to Ayr and Girvan. The slightly cross-eyed domino dots and dirt stains on the DMSL suggests this is Sc51026, probably making it Set 126 413. The rear Set is 126 412. Probably Spring 1982. alicia hartman.

End of Days. The two remaining Swindon Inter-City Sets (126 406 and 413) have arrived at Glasgow Central with a Sunday working from Stranraer Harbour. Judging by the luggage this service had made a connection with the Sealink ferry from Larne. Sc51026 (126 413) is now standing at the head of Platform 9, ready to run out ECS once the passenger work is complete and tail lamp is removed. Probably Autumn 1982. alicia hartman.

Leading power car SC51043 is on the rear of a Swindon Inter-City Class 126 DMU seen departing from Glasgow Central station, probably in 1982. The buckeye couplings were normally left in the upright position due to the frequent joining of and splitting of sets for different services. Ian MacDonald.

Cats and Dogs! Looking towards Glasgow and Sc51026 is at the rear of 126 413 at East Kilbride. The rain is pouring from the gutters and the Swindon awaits the return to Glasgow Central and some respite. Focus is not great but, hey-ho, the best at the time in a downpour! Unit 126 406 at the rear will lead the Ayrshire Wanderer back to Holm Junction and South Beach Station where it will reverse then head north for Hunterston Low Level. It's Not Unusual. Perhaps, but it's a late Saturday afternoon and Swindon 126 413 has deposited a handful of passengers at Largs after arriving on a service from Glasgow Central. DMBSL Sc51043 is nearest the camera with DMSL Sc51017 recorded at the rear. TSL is presumably Sc59404. This is probably the reformed Set 413 (with DMSL swapped from the other remaining operational Set 406) prior to preservation. December 1982. alicia hartman.

End of Days. Late Saturday afternoon and Swindon Inter-City 126 413, with DMSL Sc51017 nearest, idles at Largs on Platform 2. It will work back to Glasgow Central once the crew return and the tail lamp is removed. The high contrast is due due to the low winter sun ... and under exposure! December 1982. alicia hartman.

5th January 1983

On 5 January 1983 the final two Class 126 units are seen in Glasgow Central station. That date the six vehicles (SC51043 closest, the others being 51017, 51026, 51036, 59404 and 59411) were on Kilmacolm duties. That branch closed a few days a later and the Class 126s were withdrawn by the end of the month. Brian Daniels.

"Intercity 125" meets Intercity Class 126 DMU early on a spring morning in 1983 at Laurencekirk. The DMU had been hauled up from Thornton Yard in Fife attached to a Class 40 hauled freight. It would shortly leave BR metals, being craned onto flatbed trailers later in the day for the move to the Brechin railway. Andrew McConnell.
