A Class 126 DMU led by Sc51026 takes the Largs line as it arrives into Kilwinning station on a service from Glasgow Central on 26 May 1979. Stuart Mackay Collection.
A 6-car Class 126 set is seen ready for departure from Paisley Gilmour Street bound for Glasgow, with DMS 51026 closest. Andrew McConnell.
Set 126 413 is seen departing from Ayr station in late summer 1981. Intermediate DMS 51026 is on the rear. Andrew McConnell.
Intermediate power car SC51026 heads a Class 126 set out of Glasgow Central in the early 1980s. Ian MacDonald.
One of the Swindon built 'InterCity' DMU's of class 126 stands at Glasgow Central on a Stranraer working. Date unknown. Stuart Pearce.
Two very Scottish units, a Class 126 DMU and a Class 311 EMU sitting side by side in Glasgow Central circa 1982. The distinctive dirt streaks identify the intermediate DMS as Sc51026. Ian MacDonald.
A six-car Class 126 Swindon Inter-City DMU formation heads out of Glasgow Central circa 1982. Sc51026 is on the rear (closest). Originally these 'intermediate' power cars were fitted with gangways to allow through access in such a formation is sets were coupled the correct way around. Ian MacDonald.
Sc51026 leads a Class 126 DMU into Lochside station, circa 1982. Andrew McConnell.
End of Days. Swindon DMSL Sc51026 leads 126 413 at Glasgow Central High Level. The Set is waiting at Platform 12 (now 14) on a departure for Ayr. Notice the Greater Glasgow PTE Trans-Clyde logo below the saloon windows. Probably Summer 1982. alicia hartman.
End of Days. Swindon Inter-City 126 413 departing Glasgow Central High Level and what was Platform 12. Intermediate Sc51026 is leading on what is likely a departure for Ayr. The short platfrom road on the right was Platfrom 11a, which saw very little passenger use other than in times of disruption. Probably Summer 1982. alicia hartman.
End of Days. The two remaining Swindon Inter-City Sets (126 406 and 413) have arrived at Glasgow Central with a Sunday working from Stranraer Harbour. Judging by the luggage this service had made a connection with the Sealink ferry from Larne. Sc51026 (126 413) is now standing at the head of Platform 9, ready to run out ECS once the passenger work is complete and tail lamp is removed. Probably Autumn 1982. alicia hartman.
End of Days. Platform 13 and a six car Swindon Inter-City awaits departure from Glasgow Central. If the station clock is correct, this could be a late running 13:35 hrs to Ayr and Girvan. The slightly cross-eyed domino dots and dirt stains on the DMSL suggests this is Sc51026, probably making it Set 126 413. The rear Set is 126 412. Probably Spring 1982. alicia hartman.
The surviving Class 126 sets (126 406 and 413) in Ayr (Kyle St) carriage sidings in August 1982. The sets had been both withdrawn and reinstated in this month, eventually surviving in traffic until January '83. Andrew McConnell.
Class 126 intermediate DMS Sc51026 at Largs on August 1st, 1982. John Carter.
Cats and Dogs! Looking towards Glasgow and Sc51026 is at the rear of 126 413 at East Kilbride. The rain is pouring from the gutters and the Swindon awaits the return to Glasgow Central and some respite. Focus is not great but, hey-ho, the best at the time in a downpour! Probably Monday 27 September 1982. alicia hartman.
SPS Railtour. Intermediate Driving Cars Sc51026 (126 413) nearest and Sc51017 (126 406) coupled cab to cab on Platform 1 after a shunt from Platform 3. The Ayrshire Wanderer shunt took place during the lunchbreak at Largs. Derby 107 434 awaits departure with a service for Glasgow Central from Platform 2. Saturday 09 October 1982. alicia hartman.
Ayrshire Wanderer at Paisley Gilmour Street on 9 October 1982. This tour was organised by the Swindon Preservation Society and used the same name as the previous year's BLS tour doing exactly what it said on the headboard. The class also remained in service for a bit longer after the tour which had been to see them being withdrawn from service the following day. Here we see the train, led by Sc51026, arriving at Paisley where I was living at the time to stop and pick up. However, it wasn't booked to stop there on the return which was routed via the Canal line. As I was working for BR I arranged with the guard and tour organiser for a special stop to set down at Canal station. So far so good until I realised after the train had departed that the station was locked with me on the platform and the only way out was through the coal yard and over the gate. Yes Officer I can explain ………! Alistair Ness.
SPS Railtour. Class 126 six car set with Sc51026 (126 413) at the buffer stops at Ardrossan Harbour (Winton Pier). Unit 126 406 at the rear will lead the Ayrshire Wanderer back to Holm Junction and South Beach Station where it will reverse then head north for Hunterston Low Level. Saturday 09 October 1982. alicia hartman.

With just over a week to go before services on the line are withdrawn, two Class 126 sets are seen on the outskirts of Bridge of Weir working the 09:01 Kilmacolm - Glasgow on 31/12/82. Intermediate DMS 51026 is closest. Hamish Stevenson.

Set 411 (DMBS Sc51041, TS Sc59393, DMS Sc51026) with GG (Greater Glasgow) Trans-Clyde branding. At Carlisle on the 6th August 1979. Robert Frise.
The Papal visit to Bellahouston Park in 1982 required the use of a large number of extra trains - as a result most of the then surviving Class 126 units were mobilised. Sc51026 is seen here in the (now former) carriage sidings at Smithy Lye on 01/06/82. As the DMBS vehicle determines the unit number, it was unusual for a Swindon DMS to carry a set number. Andrew McConnell.
The "Ayrshire Wanderer" railtour is seen at Hunterston on the 9th October 1982. It was formed of 51017 / 59411 / 51036 + 51043 / 59404 / 51026. Ian MacDonald.
