At the little timber platform of Kempston Hardwick 56148/50391 departs for Bletchley with the 16.00 from Bedford on 14 February 1981. the lighting on this little station platform consisted of two tilley lamps, this one unfortunately has had it's lantern glass broken. Kempston Hardwick was one of 3 halts opened in 1905 for the steam railmotor service, the other two both closed in 1949 after having their services suspended for the war in 1941, they were Wooton Broadmead and Kempston Elstow. Geoff Dowling.
The wooden platform at Stewartby has only a Tilley lamp to combat the gloom, it should soon be lit on this cold February afternoon. Two passengers are waiting for the fuggy warmth of an old DMU, 50391 and 56148 will soon be rasping towards Bedford with the 15.10 service from Bletchley on 14 February 1981. The building is the boarded up LNWR crossing keeper's house, the keeper now travels to work by road, on the crossing side of his hut there is a ticket window beside the door. Geoff Dowling.
The 12:10 to Bedford St Johns sits in the platform at Bletchley station on 1 November 1975 formed of Cravens vehicles M56146 + M50391. Robert Thomas.
With the trademark chimneys of the London Brick Company smoking in the background 56148 and 50391 are approaching their stop at Ridgmont on the Bletchley - Bedford line on 14/02/1981. Just by the chap walking onto the platform is the lever frame for the signals and crossing, this was moved here in 1934 as a staff economy measure and it allowed the signalman to open and shut the gates and attend to booking tickets, the instruments are inside the bay windowed booking hall. Geoff Dowling.
