M51567, Sc59060 & M53926 at Dunfermline, Tuesday 7th June 1983, about to depart with the 19:47 Edinburgh Waverley – Cowdenbeath service. I considered this unusual during a visit to Scotland in June 1983, a 3 car DMU comprising two Class 108 motor cars (on loan from Chester) sandwiching a Metro Cammell trailer. What made it unusual was the centrally mounted headlamp on both motor cars which indicated that they had come from those sets so equipped to work the Central Wales Line. At this time the station nameboards simply read “Dunfermline” but the platform lamps confusingly still showed the station’s former name of “Dunfermline Lower”. Nowadays the station is known as “Dunfermline Town”. The local council, having devoted considerable energy in changing every road sign from “Town Centre” to “City Centre”, requested that the station be renamed “Dunfermline City”, which was abandoned as the cost pr Brian McDevitt.
I have very few photographs taken at Crewe and this is certainly my only after-dark shot from there. It shows class 108 set S947 (51567 + 53621) leading another unrecorded Class 101 set in platform 7 waiting to leave with an evening train to Shrewsbury on 20 October 1990. My notes say that it was a 15 second exposure on medium format 400asa TRI-X film at an aperture of f5.6 with the camera resting on my camera box. I had been out and about on the Network North-West day and hadn't want to lumber myself with the additional weight of my heavy tripod. Peter Tandy.
Class 108 set S947 (51567 + 53621) waiting at Crewe to form a Crewe-Swansea service on 2nd January 1992. Standing next to Class 158, 158758. David Slack.
A two-car Class 108 DMU at Severn Beach on 29 July 1992. Carrying set S947 the vehicle closest is presumably 51567, transferred from Swansea to Cardiff in March of that year, in September it would move to its final allocation of Longsight. Alan Grange.
Class 108 DMU set LO615 on Chester depot on 24 January 1993. Closest is DMSL 51567, behind is DMBS 53627, both would be transferred to departmental stock as a route learning unit two weeks later. John Law.
Class 108 Derby 2-car DMU 50926 + 51567 on Chester depot 21-10-82. On Tour With the Class 13 Army.
This shot of Set 358 was taken at Inverkeithing on the morning of Tuesday 7th June 1983. M53926 (with SC59060 + M51567) sets off on the climb to the Forth Bridge with the 08:38 Kirkcaldy – Edinburgh Waverley service. Brian McDevitt.
M53926, Sc59060 & M51567 at Kirkcaldy, Wednesday 8th June 1983 after working the 14:42 service from Edinburgh to Kirkcaldy and was returning to Edinburgh with the 15:38 service from Kirkcaldy. Brian McDevitt.
Class 108 S947 (presumably 53942 + 51567) is seen at Knighton, with Crewe on the blinds. Circa 1988. Tom Clift.
Seen at Swansea on 2 January 1988 are Class 108s S947 (53942 + 51567) on the 15:22 to Llandeilo and S941 (51562 + 51922) on the 14:05 to Milford Haven. Stuart Mackay Collection.
Set S947 arrives at Gowerton in 1989. The first two vehicles are presumably 53942 and Met-Camm trailer brake 59050, 51567 should be on the rear. John Law.
Class 108 DMU set LO615 on Chester depot on 24 January 1993. Closest is DMBS 53627, behind is DMSL 51567, both would be transferred to departmental stock as a route learning unit two weeks later. John Law.
