A Tyseley depot Class 116 three-car suburban DMU in refurbished white with blue stripe livery and complete with West Midlands PTE branding just behind the cab door, was coupled to a three-car BRCW Class 104 DMU, stood at Manchester Victoria with a 'Rocket 150' shuttle service to Rainhill on May 26th 1980. The leading car was Driving Motor Brake Second (DMBS) M50852. The DMU was stood in platform 11 which once connected Victoria and Exchange stations and was the longest platform in the UK at 2,238ft (682m). The frequent Rocket 150 shuttles to and from Manchester Victoria that ran before and after the cavalcade at Rainhill, utilised both local and 'borrowed' DMU sets to move the crowds. Martyn Hilbert.
