An Eastern Region publicity image showing a new Met-Camm 'Lightweight' DMU comprising driving motor third brake E79058 and driving trailer third E79274. Taken at Stratford, they were allocated new there in March 1956. Image courtesy of the Chris Booth Collection. British Railways.
An Eastern Region publicity image showing the corridor connection on a Met-Camm 'Lightweight' DMU between E79274 and E79058 at Stratford circa March 1956. On the jumper closest the number 4 can be seen painted on the right hand plug. The text on the left vehicle end reads - 25 TONS, 57-0" x 9-3", 72 T., T.O., TWIN' - showing it is a third open in a twin set with 72 third class seats. There is some small text at the very bottom corner, it is unreadable but seems to end in 'SYN' so is probably a paint date. Note the style of water filler pipe with flap, I normally associated this with drinking water for buffet / restaurant cars, and that the DMBS also had the filler pipe, not because it has a toilet but these are for the coolant system. An Eastern Region publicity image showing the guards van of a Met-Camm 'Lightweight' DMU power car, taken at Stratford in March 1956. Of note is the wooden floor and the two level switch tanks for the coolant system, connected to the header / expansion tanks in the vestibule roof areas. This was probably taken in either E79057 or E79058. Image courtesy of the Chris Booth Collection. British Railways.
