Sadly I had very mixed weather for my Railrover tour of the West Country in 1979. Here, Dawlish Warren is covered in grey cloud as a stopping train to Exeter pulls up at the station on 2nd September. An interesting assortment of station buildings can be seen and one of them housed the South Devon Railway Museum which was always worth a visit. Set P464 is presumably 51306 + 59473 + 51321. Tyseley's T316 (a Class 118 presumably 51306 + 59473 + 51321) climbing Hatton Bank on 20 June 1989. The train is the 18.44 from Leamington Spa to Birmingham Moor Street and the brakes will soon have been applied in preparation for the stop at Hatton station. I don't recall having seen another unit with this style of Midline branding and wonder if this was only one so treated? Peter Tandy.

Gloucester Eastgate on 15/7/72 - three years before closure with a class 118 unit (set B477, presumably 51321 + 59473 + 51306) on a Swindon to Cheltenham service. Rationalisation was already taking place with only the island platform in use. A long miserable footbridge often frequented by pigeons doing what they know best linked Eastgate with Central station. A battered looking class 118 DMS no. 51321 leading Tyseley's set T316 (51321 - 59473 - 51306) on a service to Leamington Spa at Warwick. The leading vehicle went on to be preserved, via departmental service, and currently resides at the Battlefield Line paired with class 116 DMBS no. 51131. Robert Chilton.

A view of Tyseley carriage sidings at around 12.30 on 7/7/93. Visible from left to right are : 977752 (ex-51306 - part of former Sandite unit T007), 977842 (ex-55032 - part of the then-current T007), 117 306 (51369/59521/51411) and T317 (51314/59481/51329). T317 was soon to be disbanded but, at this stage, still retained its as-delivered formation, some 33 years after it was put into service. It was also the only complete class 118 still in service. 117 306 would be officially transferred to Haymarket, to see out its last six years of life on the likes of Fife peakhour workings, just two days later.
