The warmth of the signalbox at Stratford-upon-Avon was welcome on Friday 26 October 1985 and this picture was taken from the window as 6 coach 108 (52058 + 59388 + 51943) + 104 DMU (53429 + 59195 + 53507) shunted from platform 1 to the Cold Store Siding alongside platform 3 where it spent the rest of the day before returning after dark to Manchester Piccadilly. Peter Tandy.

The rear set has a Class 104 centre car, a number of Buxton formations were made up of Class 108-104-108 thus. On Tour With the Class 13 Army.

Class 108 power-twin CH619 (52058 + 51937) departs from Chester with a Hooton service on 30 September 1990. This was one of the Auto-gear sets - as noted by the small text on the lower left of the cab front. On the same date the set is recorded as being transferred from Chester to Tyseley. Stuart Mackay Collection.
Class 108 DMS 52058, set number T067, is seen stabled at Tyseley carriage sidings on 14.10.1990. This had been once been a Buxton vehicle, hence the white cab roof. Andy Cole.

51943 leads this formation arriving into a bustling New Mills Central station on the 4th August 1985, presumably as set BX495 with 59388 + 52058. Chris Lings.
Stratford-upon-Avon had several visitations by Buxton based DMUs in the mid-1980s and on the cold and damp 26 October 1985 there was a 1L04 from Manchester Piccadilly listed in the weekly STN. I spent a few minutes chatting to Mick, the signalman at Stratford East, only crossing to the other side when he pulled off the outer home signal. The train consisted of a six coach class 104 (plain blue) + 108 (blue & grey) combo with vehicles 53507, 59195, 53429 + 51943, 59388 & 52058 and it was pleasing that that the class 104 was leading as these were less often seen in the West Midlands than class 108. Peter Tandy.
After a warm drink in the signalbox at Stratford-upon-Avon on 26 October 1985 I went out into the cold and took this shot of the contrasting front coaches of class 116 coach M53818 and class 108's M52058 in platforms 2 and the Cold Store Siding respectively. The training tower of the nearby fire station is still extant in 2021 albeit updated to have some uPVC window frames installed to bring this up to date. Peter Tandy.
A clear view of Stratford-upon-Avon station from the Alcester Road bridge on 26 October 1985. On the left BX482 (53507 + 59195 + 53429) + BX495 (51943 + 59388 + 52058) are stood in the Cold Store Siding while on the right a 6 coach class 116 formation (each set containing Met-Camm centre cars) is about to depart from platform 2 on its journey to Birmingham Moor Street. The 104/108 would later shunt into P2 before making the long journey back to Manchester Piccadilly after the passengers had spent a chilly day in Stratford in the days before all-day opening! Peter Tandy.

Derby Class 108 (LO612) M51937 & M52053 - Preston Station. A close-up of Class 108 Driving Motor Brake Second (DMBS) M51937 stood in platform 2 at Preston awaiting departure with the 10.23 service to Ormskirk on August 15th 1992. The car had previously been allocated to Landore Depot at Swansea as part of set S937 (with Driving Trailer 52058) during the latter part of 1991, hence the Welsh Dragon emblem on the cab front. Following departmental use, the unit was withdrawn in 1993, but M51937 has survived into preservation and is now part of the two-car Class 108 DMU owned by the Poulton & Wyre Railway based on part of the former Fleetwood line. Martyn Hilbert.
