Following a heavy shower the sun had reappeared as a six-car Calder Valley DMU formation with Driving Motor Composite Lavatory Car E52084 leading, was approaching Preston with a Bradford to Blackpool North service on September 17th 1977. For many years the daily return service between West Yorkshire and Blackpool was the only regular passenger service to travel over the Copy Pit route. The Rolls-Royce engined Class 110 fleet based at Bradford Hammerton Street Depot were subsequently regular visitors to Preston and on busy Summer Saturdays in the early to mid 1970's, a 9-Car lash-up was not uncommon.
