Details

A three-car Swindon Cross-Country DMU with Driving Motor Brake Second (DMBS) M51578 leading (and centre car 59580), was arriving at Rufford with a Preston to Ormskirk service on July 25th 1985.

These were the days when during the evening peak, the passing loop at Rufford enabled two units to pass. There used to be three different DMU's that worked to Ormskirk in that late afternoon/early evening period. The first, in the late afternoon would be a West Yorkshire set (101 or 110) that had worked to Preston from Leeds, whilst the second would be the regular unit that had been running back and forth all day, the third being a Class 120 off a Manchester - Blackpool working, bringing the non- too common sight of a Swindon Cross-Country DMU to the Ormskirk line.
