Poor availability of Class 143 Pacers due to failures of their gearboxes, led to a large influx of First Generation DMUs to Heaton depot, Newcastle, particularly from Autumn 1987, to maintain local services in the north-east. A number of Class 101s came from Scotland, and that is clearly the case for the rear car SC53141 in this view of a service passing South Bank, Cleveland, heading east towards Saltburn, on Friday 29/04/1988.
