The Hertfordshire Railtours 'Highland Fling II' was primarily a loco hauled long weekend land cruise tour from London to Scotland but on Easter Sunday 30/03/86 there was a DMU tour aimed at enthusiasts rather than the wine and dine passengers. It left Edinburgh Waverley at 09.00 formed of 2x3-car DMU sets 116 389 (53825+59329+53873) and 101 346 (51467+59554+51532). The 3hr 20min mini tour was billed as going to RNAD Crombie, Longannet Power Station and the Inverkeithing north curve avoiding line. The traversal of the power station branch was as far as the signal box as the MGR loop was deemed too tight to take passenger stock without a risk of buffer locking. The branch to Crombie didn't have a photo stop but only reached Charlestown Foundry Level Crossing which was a quarter mile short of the line end at Braeside Jcn where the MOD took over.
