On 23rd August 1980 the BLS “Lothian & Fife Wanderer” covered a number of freight lines around Edinburgh and Fife, formed of 3 car Met Camm set 50243 + 59067 + 51224. I did not travel on this but chose to take some photos on the Granton branch, sadly only with a Kodak Instamatic. A little later that day, the tour passes through Abbeyhill station on the loop line to Piershill approaching what was originally a three way junction, left for Granton, straight ahead for Leith Central, right for Piershill and back to the ECML. This line was used for the Commonwealth Games shuttle to Meadowbank in 1986 but then disconnected when the ECML was electrified, although the tracks remain in place. Abbeyhill station was closed in 1964 with others on the route to the original Musselburgh terminus.
