Ambling round the curve at Smethwick West is one of Tyseley's class 116 dmus. The leading car is W50110 and it is working the 12.55 Kidderminster - Birmingham New Street. Things have changed since this shot was taken on 23rd January 1982, the tower blocks have gone, Smethwick West station has closed although remnants of it are still there, the signal box has also gone. The replacement station is Smethwick Galton Bridge and is reached by a tunnel off to the right, at the time of taking it was a freight only stub to the cement works at Handsworth and scrap yards near the same location. Exit from the freight line is controlled by the signal on the far right of this picture.
