A three-car BRCW Class 104 'Manchester-Blackpool white-liner' DMU formed of cars M50476, M59184 & M50528, was stood at Chorley with a Manchester Victoria to Blackpool North service on September 20th 1979. The Newton Heath allocated white-liners dominated the busy Manchester-Blackpool services during the 1970's. The sets were intensively used in three and six car formations, and became very run-down in their latter years. The station buildings in this view were swept away in the 1980's and replaced with modern structures. In 2016/17 the platforms were rebuilt and the tracks realigned in readiness for electrification which was completed in 2019.
