Together forever .... Rumoured to be withdrawn from traffic fairly soon, one of OC's allocation of two Class 128 DPUs (diesel parcels units) W55992 rumbles along the up relief line at Poplar Jn, Acton, heading for Paddington ...... Inseparable since being introduced in 1960 both W55991+W55992 have been allocated to the London Division of the Western Region for over 27 years. Firstly at Southall, then Reading and now, for the last month, Old Oak Common. Both were transferred away to Cambridge 18 months later, with 55991 being withdrawn from there on 5/11/90, whilst 55992 was transferred, on paper at least, to Chester on 30/11/90 and immediately withdrawn ..... Both were later scrapped at M.C. Metals Ltd, Springburn, Glasgow ...... 1st July 1987. Nigel Mack.

The centre car is the only one of the three to have an orange cantrail stripe which is emphasising its lack of a full length rainstrip. There is another Met-Camm to the right with a suburban centre car, in the distance between the two is a Class 119 DMBC and two Met-Camm sidings. Stuart Mackay Collection.
Vehicle: 51362 Set: L424
At Acton on 19 September 1989 class 117 L424 (51362 + 59514 + 51404) passes with a Paddington to Reading local service. This wasn't the nicest place to stand with 4 very busy lanes of traffic behind the camera and probably isn't somewhere I'd go in 2023 given the OHLE catenary and less than riveting traction using the lines. Peter Tandy.
Vehicle: 55030 Set: L130
A bubble in a very different environment with L130, class 121 single car 55030, approaching Acton with a London Paddington to Greenford train in the late afternoon of 19 September 1989. The building work would soon obscure the view of the bridge over the North London Line and much of the capital's infrastructure. Peter Tandy.
