A Cravens 2-car set waits at a tired looking Dunstable North station before returning to Hatfield on Monday 29 March 1965, just under a month before passenger services ceased. This would be the 3.07pm departure, the first train since 8.45am. No wonder the line closed! The van is occupying the bay platform used by former LNWR trains from Leighton Buzzard, which had last run in 1962. Kevin Lane Collection.
The branch from Luton to Dunstable was included in the itinerary of Hertfordshire Railtour's 'Chiltern Chariot' railtour on 17 January 1987. The journey began and ended at Marylebone, taking in such delights as Wembley, Kensington, Bedford and Aylesbury. The two class 115 DMUs are seen by Dunstable Park, the far end presumably at Dog Kennel Walk bridge as the train was prevented from getting to the very end of the line. At this time, cement and oil traffic still ran, this being the first passenger working since 1965. This section now forms part of the busway route to Houghton Regis. Kevin Lane.
Passenger services between Dunstable North, Luton and Hatfield ceased on 26 April 1965. Two days before, a Cravens two-car waits for time at Dunstable North, carrying an unofficial 'Skimpot Flyer' headboard, fitted by the South Bedfordshire Locomotive Club. Kevin Lane Collection.
