In refurbished livery a Class 108 two-car DMU formed of DTCL E56199 & DMBS E50605, was arriving at Ilkley with a service from Leeds on August 9th 1980. The route from Leeds to Ilkley is now known as the 'Wharfedale Line' and was electrified in 1995. The two tracks on the far left background of this scene were once through lines that ran beyond Ilkley on the route to Skipton via Addingham and Bolton Abbey that was closed in 1965. Complete with its oil tail lamp still in position, a refurbished liveried Class 108 two-car DMU formed of cars E50605 & E56199 was stood at Ilkley with a service for Leeds on August 9th 1980. The station still retained its 1950's BR North Eastern Region enamel signage in Tangerine and was also gas-lit. Complete with his shopping in a bag, the driver is walking towards the cab. On the extreme right of this view, where the hole-in-the-wall is located, were once the through platforms in the days when Ilkley was on the route to Skipton via Addingham and Bolton Abbey, the western end of which now forms the Embsay & Bolton Abbey Steam Railway. The line beyond Ilkley closed in 1965. Martyn Hilbert.
