Vehicle: 53651

Railtour. Looking east as BLS six car DMU approaches Old Kilpatrick on the remains of the Caledonian's Lanarkshire & Dunbartonshire route. The former Admiralty oil storage tanks were served by a siding behind the building on the far right but was long out of use at that time. The leading Set is a Class 120 (with MC centre car) 53651+59124+53736 and the trailing Set is a Class 116 (with 120 DMS) 53673+59374+53090. Saturday 23 August 1986. alicia hartman.

Vehicle: 53090   Set: 385

Railtour. Looking west as BLS Railtour crawls round to Old Kilpatrick. The leading Set is a Class 120 with MC centre car whilst Set 385 on the rear is a Class 116 including a 120 DMS. The line stopped short of the Caledonian station (closed in 1964) in advance of the Erskine Bridge seen in the background. Completed in 1971 the Bridge replaced the Erskine Ferry for which the CR station would have been well placed. The North British station at Kilpatrick was to the north of the village. The oil refinery was rail served (just visible to the left) but traffic probably ceased round about the late 70's and the adjacent Admiralty siding probably some time long before that. Saturday 23 August 1986. alicia hartman.

Distant Past. Looking east at Old Kilptrick with a six car BLS DMU Railtour in the background. Swindon Class 120 DMS 53651 is leading. Patrons walk towards the buffer stop and what was effectively the headshunt for the oil sidings. The buffer stops were short of the former Caledonian L & D station. Oil traffic probably ceased in the late seventies. EE 350 hp shunters would propel tank wagons into the oil sidings on the right then propel back to Dalmuir Riverside for rounding. Saturday 23 August 1986. alicia hartman.
