A moment in time at Rock Ferry on May 22nd 1979 at 11.35am with Class 101 M56333, part of Chester Depot set CR225, awaiting departure with a service to Ellesmere Port and Helsby. Passengers gather on the platform waiting for the arrival of the DMU from Chester. The third rail was extended southwards from Rock Ferry to Hooton in 1985, and onwards to Chester in 1993 with the line to Ellesmere Port following in 1994. In 1979 the electrics from Liverpool Central terminated in the bay platforms out of view to the left of this scene. Today the platforms here handle all services with the bays now mostly being used for stabling units outside of the peak. Martyn Hilbert.

This is one of the first photos I took with my new Werra camera in 1965. It's certainly the first railway photo. I started working for British Rail in a signal box in December 1964. The photo is of a Chester bound train taken at Rock Ferry on the Woodside to Chester line. Merseyrail electrics now operate this service. Edgehillsignallman@Flickr.
A freshly-painted Met-Camm twin DMU with a a Helsby train just arrived at Rock Ferry, date unknown. Normally these worked to and from Woodside but this one has terminated here. Edgehillsignallman@Flickr.
Two class 101/102 Met-Camm units form a Chester General to Woodside train at Rock Ferry. In 1965 when this photo was taken all local Birkenhead to Chester trains were diesel units. The Birkenhead to Paddington service remained steam hauled until the service ended on 5th March 1967. Edgehillsignallman@Flickr.
