Western Region DMU set L707 (51342+51384) makes for an unusual sight departing London Waterloo being used for driver route learning trips on May 29, 1993. Waterloo International station visible behind had been formerly opened 3 weeks earlier on 6th May 1993 the day services should have started through the Channel Tunnel. Sadly with tunnel construction delays there was to be a another 17 month wait for service to start and in the meantime Waterloo International was simply hired out for corporate events. BR EPS carried on training crews in the meantime with frequent trips from London to Folkestone using a modified EMU with cinema style seats while a hired 2-car DMU from Network SouthEast was used for drivers to learn the West London line from North Pole Depot and the mainline into London Waterloo in readiness for the launch of Eurostar in 1994.
