A Class 104 at Rufford Level Crossing (Ormskirk Line). Having called at Rufford with an Ormskirk to Preston service on May 11th 1988, the Class 104 can be seen in the distance accelerating away to the next stop at Croston, as in time-honoured fashion the traditional timber level crossing gates swing open to let the waiting traffic cross. This scene would be lost forever within six months as the old signalbox and crossing gates would be replaced by a portable cabin and lifting barriers in November 1988. Martyn Hilbert.
A scene in the east end bays at Manchester Victoria, around 16.25 on 20/7/88. Three cl.104 power-twins are seen, at work on Oldham Loop services that afternoon. The numbers of the cars visible are uncertain but the sets are thought to be 53476/53425, 53522/53541 and 53439/53492. Leonard Rogers.

A BRC&W built 2 car class 104 dmu on either a Manchester Piccadilly-Rose Hill or a New Mills Central service, passes high over the River Goyt at 124ft on the 918 ft long 1865 built Marple Viaduct on 15th November 1988, captured from the adjacent Marple Aqueduct. Andrew J Crowther.
Looking west on Wigan Wallgate station towards Southport/Kikby on 26th April 1989, the class 150 'Sprinter' with the class 104 behind are on the Bolton/Manchester platforms, whilst the class 142 is in the bay platform with the Kirby service. Andrew J Crowther.
