My train home, the 14.00 departure from Wigan Wallgate which I'd take to Appley Bridge. This was the 10.39 York to Southport service and was worked by a Neville Hill Class 108 set including car 53599. 20th October 1984. S Gaskell.
22nd October 1984
A class 108 DMU set led by car M52041 awaits departure from platform 2 at Preston with a Blackpool North to Manchester Victoria service on the 22nd October 1984. This car continued in service until November 1992 and was scrapped two months later. An exposure of 11 seconds at f8 was used. S Gaskell.

A Class 108 DMU with 54230 closest and 53947 had recessed onto the stub of the Hayfield branch to the otherwise disused tunnel at New Mills Central whilst an express passes, it now returns to the station to form the next local service to Manchester Piccadilly, 27-10-84. Taken from a footbridge at Tinsley West Junction on the former GC line from Meadowhall, which is visible in the foreground, the DMU is approaching the site of the present day Meadowhall Interchange station. Wigan North Western was home to three pairs of Class 108 DMUs on this bright winter's day in December 1984. The 4-car set in platform 4 is likely to be the 11.35 Blackpool North to Liverpool Lime Street service, due to leave Wigan at 12.22, while the 2-car set in platform 3 would form the next Liverpool service an hour later. Doncaster South Yorkshire 1985: the old order on the East Coast Main Line at Doncaster station. We had just arrived from Thorne North on the Class 108 Hull-Sheffield diesel multiple unit standing at platform 3. Over in bay platform 6 is a Class 141 Pacer British Rail/Leyland railcar on a Metro-Train Leeds service. Introduced in 1984 these lightweight units were all withdrawn by 1997 and in 2001-2 many were exported to Iran. Pete LG99.

This formation - with at least nine vehicles - is seen at Stockport circa 1985 with 'Excursion' on the destination blind. M52050 is at the front as part of a three-car Class 108, followed by a three-car Class 104 and three other vehicles, the first two being 108s. Stuart Mackay Collection.

The approach to Bradford Forster Square station as seen from the front window of a dmu (almost certainly a Class 108) from Keighley in 1985. Not much was happening & by this time most of the station was derelict, the few remaining trains concentrated on the 2 westernmost platforms. The goods yard and sidings to the left were disused & about to be lifted. Pete LG99.

A Class 108 is seen amongst a variety of vehicles in Derby Litchurch Lane Works. David Faircloth notes "the 'photo was taken from the "Long Bridge", this still crosses the works site, but has been closed for about 6 years. The land on which the vehicles stand is now outside the works, and is covered by an industrial estate (Citygate)." Ian Francis.
