I think my father was photographing these services in conjunction with the closure of Birmingham Snow Hill. Date is 3rd March 1972. The KDH Archive.

An arriving DMU and Canton's D6885 at Radyr Station on the 15th of April 1972. The set number seems to be C347, and so the vehicles are presumably 50084 + 59373 + 50126. A comment added to the image on flickr by 'br2975' notes: "The DMU is taking the Radyr Jct to Radyr Quarry Jct line through the yard, then the former Penarth Harbour & Dock Railway route to Penarth Curve North Jct. This was normally freight only, except for diversions, and specials such as Mystery Trips from Rhondda (Treherbert), Cynon (Aberdare HL) and rarely, Taff (Merthyr) valleys. My notes suggest the DMU was a footex en-route to Ninian Park Halt in connection with Cardiff City v Carlisle Utd. (City won 3-1). Sometimes the ECS would run from Ninian Park and stable in Radyr Yard during the matches." The KDH Archive.

Three class 116 DMUs combine on this Birmingham New Street to Hereford service as it passes Smethwick West on 27/5/1972. Whilst services in those days were not frequent, I would imagine that this was to move I or 2 of the units to Kidderminster or Worcester. The Rowley Hills can be seen in the distance. Stephen Burdett.
