A 2-car C304 (53130 + 53088) stabled overnight at Treherbert, 28/02/84 (or late '80s?). This was during the time of various reviews and saw the Rhymney line worked by a bubble car in the off peak between Rhymney and Bargoed and the Sunday Merthyr service was also bubble car worked with the vehicle working the 04xxish ex-Treherbert Monday to Saturday. In the platform is a BR (Derby) Suburban 3-car dmu (Class 116) No.C305 on a service to Cardiff and Barry Island. Class 116 DMU set C305 (presumably 53131 + 59039 + 53089) at Cardiff Bute Road station in 1986, before much of the development which has transformed the Cardiff Bay area over the last 20 years. On the left can be seen the former station building, which also served as the headquarters of the Taff Vale Railway before 1923. In 1986 it had recently been renovated and was in use as a museum (including an excellent model of the station in the late 19th century). Tom Burnham.
