Hybrid Class 117/101 set C450 (51394 + 59539 + probably 51352) is seen in Penarth station on August 10th, 1987. The centre car, which the photographer noted as carrying a data sticker claiming it was 19 metres long, would later become the green centre car in 'Daisy'. Michael Mensing.
A 6-car Pressed Steel Suburban Tyseley allocated class 117 formation, set T315 (M51394 closest, the DMBS should be 51352), presumably on a cross country working from Birmingham is seen on arrival at Norwich, 13th August 1988. Leaving Cradley Heath Class 117 set T315 (presumably 51394 + 59745 + 51352) tackles Old Hill Bank on its way to Birmingham New Street with a service from Kidderminster. March 1990. A standing start from Cradley often posed a task for an ailing dmu as the bank started at 1 in 49 and for the next mile was in the main 1 in 51!, Stephen Burdett.
51394 leads set 117 314 leaving Waverley station, on the 16.47 to Cowdenbeath, on 27/7/93. The set had just been allocated to Haymarket, having been transferred from Tyseley, for a couple of months and would go on to work out the last five or so years of its life from the Edinburgh depot, on workings like the one shown here. One of Haymarket's fairly recently acquired class 117's (unit 117 314, with 51394 trailing and nearest the camera) leaves the depot at 16.35 on 22/10/93, as ECS to Waverley station. It will, in all likelihood, then form an evening peak working to Fife. Leonard Rogers.

On 21 July 1979, the RCTS/Southern Electric Group "Marchwood Volunteer No 2" rail tour, formed of class 117 Pressed Steel suburban coaches 51395+59505+51353 is seen at the "Model Room" platform at Marchwood, Hampshire. The DMU was built in 1960. Jeremy Chapter.
