A Gloucester RC&W Cross-Country DMU and a Derby suburban set (one vehicle lined) are seen with the 4.05pm Birmingham Snow Hill - Reading - Paddington service north of Cropredy in September 1965. Leading is M51072 with Tyseley set number 511 in the cab window, Michael Mensing.

Waiting at Birmingham Snow Hill station is W51102, the car is the leading vehicle of a Gloucester RC&W Cross Country set. The unit is standing by the girders that form the bridge over Great Charles Street, they are still in place today. Waiting in the background is an SLS railtour with Gresley K4 61994 The Great Marquess, it was withdrawn from BR service in December 1961. The railtour that the steam loco is working was 'The Restored Locomotives Cavalcade' The tour started with 3442 (61994) from Snow Hill at 10.30 (returning at 18.43) 3442 took the train to Worcester Shrub. 1420/4555 continued with the train to Alveley Sidings, they returned via Stourbridge Juction and Dudley to Wolverhampton L.L. 1420/4555 then returned to Worcester Shrub Hill where 3442 was waiting to return to Birmingham Snow Hill. A GRC&W Cross-Country set at Hatton on 2 October 1965. It has Tyseley set number 513 in the window and the DMBC seems to be W51058. The vehicle was allocated to the depot from October 1961 to March 1967. Michael Mensing.
1966
In the mid 1960s, a Tyseley based Gloucester RC&W 'Cross-Country' set was scheduled to work what was known in the Chester/Wirral area as "the Leamington" - a Leamington Spa - Birkenhead service which - prior to be taken over by one of these sets - had usually been hauled by a "Hall" class 4-6-0 as far as Chester. One of these sets is seen here passing Port Sunlight in 1966. The style of the yellow panel shows that the last repaint had taken place at Swindon. David Faircloth.

A two-car GRC&W Cross-Country DMU at Newbury, heading for Reading. Reading had two of these sets from 1964 (51053 + 51081 and 51061 + 51089). Both were blue by March 1967 which dates this to mid-1960s. Graham Clark.
