A Swindon Works image (negative 5C 256) showing the bodyshell of a Cross Country DMSL. The doors stand out as being different colours as these were aluminium, the body of course was steel. This was taken on the 10 December 1958, and is one of the first batch of these vehicles. British Railways.
DMUs in Bristol Marsh Junction depot, date unknown. The two-car Swindon Cross-Country set contains DMBC W50741 - allocated there from new in December 1958 until moving to Tyseley in 1962. A suburban vehicle is to the right. Stuart Mackay Collection.
DMUs in Bristol Marsh Junction Depot circa late 1950s. A Derby suburban set is on the left formed as a two-car, centre is a Swindon Cross-Country, also formed as a two-car. W50741 is probably the DMBC as image 27151 was likely taken on the same visit from the opposite side. The whiskers on the set on the right identify it as a GRC&W vehicle, the angled fittings where the vacuum pipes come through the buffer beam seem to have been used on some of the Cross-Country sets. John Horne Collection.

A Swindon Cross-Country DMU (the set number appears to be 505) passes through Darby End Halt. The station - on the 'Bumble Hole' line between Blowers Green and Old Hill - closed in June 1964 and so this image was taken sometime between then (assuming it is closed - or just severely neglected?) and track lifting in 1968. John Horne Collection.

Swindon built diesels on display. A Cross-Country DMU, behind it another DMU car then a GWR railcar, and a Warship diesel hydraulic locomotive are seen at their birthplace. This negative had a date of 18 March 1960 on the sleeve but the condition of the three-car suggests earlier, possibly 1958. Stuart Mackay Collection.
