A couple of DMUs wait for custom at Nottingham on Saturday 11th March 1978, the Swindon unit on the left (displaying an incorrect destination) working the 0639 Barnetby - Crewe. The one on the right (a BRCW Class 104) has just arrived on the 0756 ex Grantham & will soon form the 0844 to Skegness which I will take to Grantham for another day's Deltic bashing. Behind the footbridge the ex-GC strides confidently across the Midland station on a bowstring viaduct which was removed circa 1979/1980. John Simmonds.

One of the intrinsic parts of the classic railway scene were first generation DMUs bouncing along uneven jointed track with everyone including the driver bouncing along with it in unison. Sometimes the driver would be a spoilsport & pull down the concertina blind but happily not on this occasion as the 2B60 1213 St Ives-St Erth approaches Lelant Saltings distant signal having just departed Lelant. The view from the Swindon Class 120 is south across Hayle Estuary on Saturday 29th April 1978. John Simmonds.

The Midland Railway station in Lincoln was St Marks, where a Swindon dmu is preparing to depart westwards from platform 1 with a three car train on 31st May 1978. Traffic on the level crossing can be seen in the right background. The line used to connect with the Great Northern line at Durham Ox Junction east of Central Station. Opened in 1846 the station closed completely in May 1985 when a new passenger line was opened between the Midland route & the Great Northern line into Lincoln Central station. This greatly relieved the traffic congestion in the city along High Street. However with the opening of a shopping complex on the site in the 1990s no doubt the traffic is even worse now. At least the main station building was not demolished but incorprated into this complex. Pete LG99.
