A very rare picture of a Class 120 with yellow cab doors, seen at Swindon in summer '67. The first of the class in blue/grey, the paint date on the solebar reads 5/6/67, and the set number is also on the solebar - BL527. The other two vehicles in the set remained in green, W50650 (pictured) was possibly painted singly as a trial for approval before more of the class was done. David Faircloth.

1986 saw a welcome return of Swindon DMUs to Ayrshire in the form of an influx of Cross Country Units. Most of the Swindon units had received Metro Cammel centre cars. Here 53651 (formerly of Derby Etches Park set 519, and appears to have a broken window mid-vehicle) and 53648 are seen at the magnificent Ayr station. Andrew McConnell.

Distant Past. Looking east at Old Kilptrick with a six car BLS DMU Railtour in the background. Swindon Class 120 DMS 53651 is leading. Patrons walk towards the buffer stop and what was effectively the headshunt for the oil sidings. The buffer stops were short of the former Caledonian L & D station. Oil traffic probably ceased in the late seventies. EE 350 hp shunters would propel tank wagons into the oil sidings on the right then propel back to Dalmuir Riverside for rounding. Saturday 23 August 1986. alicia hartman.

The Branch Line Society 'Clyde-Forth' railtour is seen at Menstrie on the freight only branch from Cambus Junction to Glenochil Distillery and yeast factory at Menstrie on August 23, 1986. Formed of two hybrid 3-car sets, 120/101 53651+59124+53736 and 116/120 set 53673+59374+53090 trailing. This line was once a passenger branch from Cambus Junction near Alloa to Alva but lost its service on 01/11/1954. It was retained as a freight branch initially to Alva but the section beyond Glenochil Distilley to Alva closed on 24/02/1964. The branch to Menstrie was retained for inbound grain and molasses traffic but only generated wagon load flows. It was a victim of the demise of the Speedlink wagon load network disbanded by BR in July 1991 and fell into disuse thereafter. Adrian Nicholls.
