Gloucester class 128 motor parcels van No.M55989 is seen at Newton Heath depot on 10th April 1971, with its 'buffalo horns' prominent. Ten motor luggage vans of class 128 were delivered from the Gloucester Railway Carriage & Wagon Co. in early 1960 for use on the London Midland and Western Regions. The London Midland examples did not have end gangways fitted. Powered by two 230hp engines per vehicle, they were able to accommodate a trailing load when required. This was from a dark half-frame slide with no details. It shows two Class 128s with vehicles in tow at Shrewsbury, probably in the early/mid-1970s. M55995 is closest, the second one is likely 93 or 94, these three vehicles being allocated to Chester from October 1973. Stuart Mackay Collection.
A GRC&W parcels car in Rail Blue livery and with "Parcels Service" on the side stands in the Up siding at the south end of Shrewsbury station in Spring 1974 alongside the Western lower quadrant junction signal. The right hand post is marginally higher suggesting that the joint GWR & LNWR line to Hereford is marginally more important than the GWR line to Wolverhampton. Pete LG99.
