A Derby Lightweight twin (from the original West Cumberland batch) departs from Carlisle sometime in 1959. Whitehaven is on the destination blind yet there are no signs of passengers so it's probably an ECS or changing platforms. Stuart Mackay Collection.

An official British Railways image (Eastern Region Negative AC472) which had a caption "Damaged Diesel Rail-Car at Stratford C. & W. Works. (Photographed specially for the use of C.M. & E.E. Department Derby)". It is dated August 5 1959 and shows a Derby Lightweight DTC undergoing cab end repairs. This is presumably after collision damage, with the twisted solebar and twist in the front of the bogie, the actual incident unknown. British Railways.

With electrification work in progress, two two-car Derby Lightweight DMUs arrive at Manchester London Road with the 3.0pm ex-Marple on 9th April 1960. On the left is English Electric Type 4 D236, between it an the church is a steam loco, the electrification train behind the DMU has a 350hp diesel shunter at the far end. Note also the significant number of young spotters crammed onto the platform end on the lower left. Michael Mensing.
