The high back seats indicate it is an LMR vehicle, the lack of floor hatches and first class indicate a DTCL. Only one small batch had the 2+2 seating in first class lot 30322 to Diagram 511 with vehicles M79670-84. British Railways.

Two two-car Derby Lightweight sets head out of Newcastle with a Middlesbrough service. The date is unknown, they appear reasonably clean so probably taken soon after delivery (new in March 1956), they were intended for Hexham sevices later in the year. British Railways.

Three two-car Derby Lightweights form an excursion from Walsall to Cambridge at Willington circa January 1957. The train reporting number is W736 and it was noted as the first DMU to run between Bedford and Sandy. FH Jardine.

There are at least ten Derby Lightweight vehicles visible in this view at Birmingham New Street on the 2nd March 1957, there were 16 vehicle total. They will form three services, the 5.15pm to Lichfield (6-cars), 5.20pm to Lichfield (6-cars), and the 5.42pm to Four Oaks (4-cars). The latter would have addition vehicle added from an incoming service. Michael Mensing.
